  LEGACY TRAINING GROUP – INTRO TO ACTION SHOOTING (USPSA / PCSL / Practical Competition Fundamentals) COURSE OVERVIEW The Legacy Training Group Intro to Action Shooting course is a foundational program designed to introduce shooters to the fast-paced, dynamic world of practical shooting sports such as USPSA and PCSL. This course is built for shooters who are comfortable with basic firearms handling and marksmanship but are new to competition environments. Emphasis is placed on safety, procedural understanding, movement, stage execution, and scoring, ensuring students can confidently and safely participate in their first match. Training blends classroom instruction with guided range application to remove confusion, reduce cognitive overload, and build confidence in dynamic shooting bays. TRAINING OBJECTIVES By the end of this course, students will be able to: Administrative Firearms & Ammunition Handling Safely handle firearms and ammunition when entering and exiting shooting bays Understand cold range procedures and competitor responsibilities Demonstrate proper unloading, showing clear, casing, and bagging procedures Stage Briefings & Match Flow Understand and interpret written and verbal stage briefings Identify start positions, shooting areas, target arrays, and fault lines Ask appropriate clarification questions prior to shooting Firearms & Ammunition Staging Safely stage firearms and ammunition as required by stage design Comply with staged start conditions (e.g., unloaded firearm on a barrel or table) Perform safe loading procedures from staged positions Scoring & Divisions Understand hit factor scoring and how accuracy and speed interact Identify scoring zones and penalties Understand classes, divisions, and equipment placement without unnecessary complexity Movement & Target Engagement Move safely and efficiently with a loaded firearm Maintain muzzle awareness during entry, exit, and transitions Execute target transitions and engagements with intent and control Cognitive Priming & Stage Planning Develop simple stage plans prior to shooting Mentally rehearse movement and target engagement order Manage cognitive load under time pressure COURSE SCHEDULE Classroom – Competition Fundamentals Welcome & student introductions Safety philosophy for dynamic shooting environments Administrative firearms and ammunition handling Stage briefings and competitor responsibilities Scoring systems and hit factor fundamentals Divisions, classifications, and equipment overview Cognitive priming and stage visualization Range – Guided Stage Application Bay orientation and live-fire safety review Administrative entry and exit procedures Firearms and ammunition staging exercises Movement fundamentals and positional awareness Target engagement and transitions Guided stage runs with instructor coaching AARs (After Action Reviews) after each iteration WHO SHOULD ATTEND This course is ideal for: Shooters interested in USPSA, PCSL, or practical competition Defensive or recreational shooters wanting to explore competition New competitors seeking structured instruction before attending a match Shooters looking to improve movement, transitions, and shooting efficiency Prerequisite: Solid foundational pistol skills and prior professional training recommended.
