YGC Defensive Pistol 1
About the Course
WARNING: This is not a course for beginner shooters! It is required that all participants successfully complete Basic Pistol or an equivalent class.
Defensive Pistol 1 is the first foundational course in the Defensive Handgun Series. Students will learn to safely draw and re-holster their firearms while under time and environmental pressure. Shooters should begin to master critical firearm-handling techniques, immediate action drills, and the engagement sequence all while under simulated stress.
Defensive Pistol 1 will also introduce basic defensive principles such as scanning the environment and managing the scene after a defensive encounter. By the end of this course, students should be able to draw from the holster safely and proficiently and quickly yet accurately engage the target (or threat). This course and shooting drills will gradually increase in difficulty based on students’ abilities and time restrictions.
Students who have obtained their NC Conceal Carry Handgun (CCH) Permit (or those who intend to) are strongly encouraged to take the entire Defensive Handgun Series. Defensive Handgun 1 is a prerequisite for Defensive Handgun 2.
