YGC Handgun Fundamentals 2 (Intermediate Handgun)
About the Course
Handgun Fundamentals 2 / Intermediate Handgun prepares shooters to transition from Basic Handgun to the Defensive Pistol Series. It is designed for shooters who want to improve their knowledge and skill in the fundamentals of practical handgun use. This course will focus on the repetition of fundamentals, all of which, students have previously been introduced to, but may not have completely mastered. The primary goal of HF2 / Intermediate Handgun is to elevate the shooter's confidence by increasing their knowledge and experience, challenging their skills, and beginning to transform into a defensive mindset while still in a safe and controlled environment. With a focus on how to safely and efficiently present (draw) their handgun from the holster, this class builds on topics covered in Handgun Fundamentals 1 / Basic Handgun, adding reloads with retention, Type 1 and 2 malfunction clearances, and using the shooter's workspace.
In HF2 / Intermediate Handgun, you will spend less time in the classroom and more time on the range! The first hour of this 4-hour class will begin in the classroom. Class time allows a refresh of safety procedures, terminology, and illustrations of the shooting and marksmanship fundamentals. After class time, students will spend an average of three hours on the range conducting live-fire drills. By the end of this 4-hour class, you should be able to efficiently draw your handgun from the holster and apply the fundamentals under increasing time pressure.
Shooters can expect to fire between 150 to 200 rounds throughout the increasingly challenging drills. The drills are designed to bring a focus to the details of shooting where accuracy should not be sacrificed for speed. Drills will increase in difficulty as the class progresses and will begin to introduce a defensive mindset, as well as, shooting in defensive situations. ** It should be noted that some drills are designed to induce stress while shooting.
This course will set the foundation for more advanced training by reinforcing firearm safety, malfunction causes, and remedies, including an immediate action drill (or clearing malfunctions), and so much more. Upon completion of this course, students will be prepared for defensive-style pistol shooting and are encouraged to seek additional advanced training.
Students are encouraged to bring their own firearm, however, one can be provided if necessary.

YGC Pistol Optics 1
Red dot-type optics on pistols are becoming more popular, and for good reason. A red dot can be easier than iron sights to acquire, may allow you to shoot faster, and help with maximizing accuracy at a distance. But they can work against you if you don’t really understand how to use them. In Pistol Optics 1 you will learn key considerations for adjusting to and using a pistol optic, how to keep your dot steady, and how to zero. We will then move to the range where we will get your dot zeroed and help refine your marksmanship fundamentals shooting fast and accurately with the dot. By the end of this 4-hour class, you should know the capabilities and limitations of your red dot pistol and have begun developing the skill to use it to its potential.
Prerequisite: Basic handgun proficiency required. Be able to load/unload and use a firearm without supervision.

Students will also be exposed to what it means to align the muzzle to the target and then introduced to concepts such as point shooting, flash sight picture, and precise sight alignment. Developing a Personal and Home Protection Plan
Developing a personal & home protection plan is a key component of not only preparing for how we should (or might) react if confronted by a violent crime but also how we might avoid violent crime in the first place. Within this lesson, our instructor explains that developing a protection plan is about much more than becoming proficient with a firearm or writing up a home invasion plan. It’s a plan that must encompass awareness, avoidance, and preparation, so that we are less likely to find ourselves in a situation where we have no other option than to use our firearm, rather than more likely.
Fundamentals of Home Defense: The Importance of Having a Personal and Home Protection Plan
In this seminar, we will discuss the importance of having a personal and home protection plan and why it should matter to you. We will cover topics such as situational awareness and home alarm systems. We will discuss home security and how to conduct an evaluation of your home's security. We will discuss the fundamentals of home defense and how to discuss the plan with people living in your home or visiting family members. We will even discuss where to start and what to do to begin the process of creating your home defense plan, including potential scenarios.
Gear & Gadgets Seminar
In this seminar, we will discuss the multitude of gear and gadget options available to firearm owners! We will discuss holsters and the many factors to consider when purchasing the right one. Students will be introduced to the idea of flashlights (both tactical and gun-mounted), laser aiming devices, and gun safes and storage options.
Real Estate Agent Safety & Self-Defense Seminar
Real estate agents face a high risk of violent encounters in the workplace, more so than many other professions! This is why the USCCA has developed a highly specific class to address this reality.
Here's what real estate agents will learn through the Real Estate Agent Safety & Self-Defense Seminar:
If you or someone you know is a Real Estate Agent, we urge you to use this opportunity to learn how to become better protected and more prepared!
Self-Defense Firearm Basics
Are you considering a pistol/handgun for personal protection, but don't really know where to start? Whether you decide to own and carry a firearm for self-defense, you should also know and consider other available options. In this seminar, we will cover basic handgun nomenclature, discuss ammunition (both for personal protection and for range use), and talk about other self-defense (less-than-lethal) options. We will also introduce you to the concepts of home defense planning and preparation. And, if you are not sure which gun is the right one for you, we will discuss the pros and cons of multiple options.
Should I Shoot? (When I Can and Cannot Legally Shoot)
One of the most critical questions of self-defense is, "Should I Shoot?". Learn how to answer this question with confidence by learning what to do in real-life scenarios. During this session, we will contemplate real-life scenarios that will force you to think about whether you would be justified in defending yourself using deadly force. This event provides a comprehensive discussion about how to survive the legal system as a responsible gun owner. Learn what threats await after a self-defense incident (emotional/mental, legal, financial).
Optional Course Materials
Notebook and Pen
Situational Awareness
This course is designed to teach students about situational awareness. Situational awareness is about what is happening around you every moment of every day. This course teaches and demonstrates how to be more aware of your surroundings and how to use all your senses to be aware of possible dangers lurking around. We will cover actions that one can take that will make them less of a target or victim of a crime. After this seminar, students will feel confident and more in control of what happens in their day-to-day lives. In a world where people tend to live in their own "bubble", let's take the responsibility to "see" the environment around us and use our intuition to avoid becoming a potential victim.
Topics Covered:
▪ Developing a Personal and Home Protection Plan
▪ Personal Safety
▪ The Legal use of Force
▪ Violent Encounters and the Aftermath
▪ Physiological Reactions to Violent Encounters
Required Course Materials:
No materials are required for this course, but feel free to bring a notebook/notepad and pen/pencil.
Use of Force Seminar
This seminar will introduce students to the concepts of reasonable and deadly force and what North Carolina law says about each as a justification for self-defense. Students will also learn about the Use-of-Force Continuum and how a Prosecutor evaluates a case of self-defense. Can you use reasonable or deadly force in defense of your home? What about in defense of your property? And how about in defense of your life or the life of a loved one? If you don't know the answers to these questions, join us to obtain vitally important information about what you can and cannot do in terms of using force!
Violent Encounters and Their Aftermath
After surviving a violent attack, dealing with the aftermath can be a daunting journey, both physically and mentally. This course is designed to help individuals understand the potential physical and psychological reactions that may arise during and after such a critical incident involving deadly force. It aims to prepare them to face the tough reality of post-traumatic stress and provide guidance on how to cope with the emotional challenges that follow. Additionally, the course will cover important steps to take immediately after using force in self-defense, including how to communicate with a 911 operator and how to interact with law enforcement when they arrive on the scene. Participants will also gain insights into the legal implications of their actions and the rights and responsibilities associated with self-defense.
